ACCOMAC, Va. (Diya TV) — A father and daughter were killed at a Shore Stop convenience store in Accomac, Virginia after an early-morning altercation over alcohol. The shooting took place on March 20, shortly after the store opened that morning.
44-year-old George Frazier Devon Wharton, according to the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office, went into the store that morning and questioned it about the night’s closure. It turned into a fight, in which Wharton supposedly pulled out a weapon and fired at 56-year-old Pradeep Patel and his 24-year-old daughter, Urmi.
Pradeep Patel was killed at the scene, while Urmi was taken to a hospital, where she died from her wounds. The Patels had moved to the United States six years earlier from the Mehsana district in Gujarat, India. Pradeep, his wife, Hansaben, and their daughter, Urmi, worked at the Shore Stop, owned by a relative, Paresh Patel.
The couple has two other daughters—one in Canada and the other in Ahmedabad, India. Wharton was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, plus various felony and weapons-related offenses.
The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office continues to probe the events leading up to the shooting.
