HOUSTON (Diya TV) — India House Houston has announced that its 14th annual gala will have a special guest in attendance — Ian Grillot, the 24-year-old who intervened in the Olathe shooting of Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani, will be the event’s guest of honor.

Grillot sustained serious injuries while trying to save the lives of Kuchibhotla and Madasani, the former was killed after Navy veteran Adam Purinton allegedly shot at them in a Kansas tavern after telling them to “get out of my country.”

The invite sent by India House Houston reads, “A true American hero from Olathe, Kansas. He tried to take down a cowardly racist, who shot dead Indian aviation engineer Srinivas and injured another engineer from India.” The fundraising gala scheduled for March 25th Saturday at JW Marriott Houston will honor Grillot as ‘A True American Hero.’

Board member and chair of the gala Jiten Agarwal said the 2017 edition of the ceremony will be one of India House’s largest events this year. He has invited all Houstonians to come and participate in the event that will acknowledge the bravery of Grillot and also support India House’s annual fundraising event.

India’s ambassador to the U.S. Navtej Sarna is scheduled to be in attendance, as well as the award winning chef Vikas Khanna. David Mulford, the U.S. ambassador to India and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal are also scheduled to attend the event.

The event will also feature entertainment programs such as theme dances by Karmagraphy and performance of flutist Anis Chandani.
