SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) – 250 Indian Americans and South Asians protested outside of California lawmaker Aisha Wahab’s office. The Afghan American State Senator introduced the nation’s first statewide legislation seeking to ban caste-based discrimination. But her critics say the law is targeting Hindus and South Asians without any concrete data or case law to support such a conclusion. Despite the turnout, Wahab and her staff chose not to meet with her constituents and the others on site.
Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson is Chicago’s new mayor, becoming the second Black man elected to lead the nation’s third largest city. Johnson will replace Lori Lightfoot, whose bid for a second term was soundly rejected by Chicago voters.
Former President Donald Trump has been charged by a New York grand jury with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an indictment that was unsealed after Trump was arraigned in a Manhattan courtroom. Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges related to alleged hush money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels.
