KARACHI (Diya TV) — Saveera Parkash, a member of the minority Hindu community in Buner district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has officially submitted her nomination papers for a general seat in the upcoming Pakistan general elections. Scheduled for February 8, 2024, these elections will see Parkash vie for the general seat of PK-25 in Buner district.

A recent graduate of Abbottabad International Medical College, Parkash is set to represent the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), following in the footsteps of her father, Oam Parkash, a dedicated PPP member with 35 years of service, recently retired as a doctor. Saleem Khan, a local politician affiliated with the Qaumi Watan Party, noted that Parkash is the first woman from Buner to file nomination papers for a general seat, not to mention the first Hindu woman .

Currently serving as the general secretary of the PPP women’s wing in Buner, Parkash expressed her commitment to community welfare, particularly focusing on the betterment of women, advocacy for their rights, and ensuring a safe environment. In an interview with Dawn, Parkash emphasized the historical neglect and suppression of women in the development sector, pledging to address these issues if elected.

Her focus on women’s rights, community welfare, and addressing historical neglect aligns with her aspirations to serve the underprivileged.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recently mandated a five percent inclusion of women candidates in general seats, reflecting a step forward in enhancing gender representation in Pakistan’s political landscape. Parkash’s historic nomination is expected to pave the way for more inclusive and diverse political participation in the future.
