SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — The Hindu American Foundation will hold its annual Northern California Gala Dinner on Sunday Sept. 18 at the Indian Community Center in Milpitas, Calif. Diya TV is serving as an official media sponsor of the event, which will feature speeches and tales to be told from the likes of comedian Rajiv Satyal and Sanjay Patel.

Satyal has already entertained countless sold-out shows across the country with his unique, hilarious and heart-warming stories. In addition, Hindu American community and interfaith leaders will highlight the importance of advocacy in the realm of policy, education, media, and human rights.

The Hindu American Foundation has seen many milestones in 2016, most notably successfully promoting accuracy and fairness in how Hinduism is portrayed in the education system of states such as California and Virginia. HAF further released a landmark report entitled “ Classroom Subjected: Bullying and Bias Against Hindu Students in American Schools, drawing a link between textbook inaccuracies and bullying in the classroom. HAF also launched Hinduism 101: Learning about Hinduism Inside and Out – the most interactive way to learn about Hinduism.

“HAF’s 2016 Northern California Gala Dinner will be a unique opportunity to learn more about the world of Hindu American advocacy and why it matters for all of us,” said Rajeev Singh, Co-coordinator of the HAF Northern California Chapter. “It will also be a celebration of the Hindu American community’s unprecedented victory in changing the California Frameworks and a call to action to fight Hinduphobia in the upcoming textbook adoption process.”

Sanjay Patel, writer and director of Pixar’s short film, Sanjay’s Super Team, will also attend the event, as well as Rev. D. Andrew Kille, Ph.D., who serves as the Chair of the Silicon Valley Interreligious Council.

Diya TV’s Ravi Kapur will emcee the event along with HAF Co-Founder and Executive Director Suhag Shukla. Diya TV is also a media sponsor for the event.
