Rep Tulsi Gabbard Diya TV HAF 2013
HONOLULU, (Diya TV) — Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, considered a rising star of the Democratic Party, announced Sunday on a broadcast of NBC’s Meet the Press she’s resigning from her post in the Democratic National Committee in order to endorse presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Gabbard was serving as the Vice Chair of the national committee, and said just last month that she was unable to take sides due to her position with the DNC.

She specifically pointed out Sanders’ stance on military intervention as a key reason he’s earned her endorsement.

“As a veteran, as a soldier, I’ve seen firsthand the true cost of war. … As we look at our choices as to who our next Commander-in-chief will be is to recognize the necessity to have a Commander-in-chief who has foresight. Who exercises good judgment. Who looks beyond the consequences — who looks at the consequences of the actions that they are willing to take before they take those actions. So that we don’t continue to find ourselves in these failures that have resulted in chaos in the Middle East and so much loss of life,”Quote Author

Gabbard has continually clashed with DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz over the Democratic presidential debate schedule, and the endorsement came on the heels of Hillary Clinton’s clinching of the South Carolina primary. Clinton increased her current advantage, beating Sanders by almost 50 percent in Saturday’s South Carolina primary.

Bad blood or not, Wasserman released a statement praising Gabbard for her work in the House and with the Democratic Party.

“Congresswoman Gabbard is a role model who embodies the American ideal that anyone can dream big and make a difference, She is also a colleague in Congress and a friend, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside her when our Party unites behind whoever emerges as our nominee.” Quote Author
