WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — U.S. law enforcement agencies reported 189 anti-Sikh hate crime offenses and 32 anti-Hindu offenses in 2025, according to newly released FBI data.
The figures come from the FBI’s annual hate crime statistics. The report tracks crimes linked to religious, racial, ethnic, and other forms of bias. Overall, agencies reported 10,881 hate crime incidents involving 13,026 offenses last year.
Religious bias accounted for 21.5% of the 12,567 single-bias offenses reported in 2025. Among those cases, anti-Jewish bias made up the largest share at 62.3%. Anti-Islamic or anti-Muslim bias followed at 9.6%. Anti-Sikh bias accounted for 7%.
The FBI reported 2,703 single-bias religious hate crime offenses. Based on that total, anti-Sikh bias accounted for about 189 offenses. Anti-Hindu bias made up 1.2%, or about 32 offenses.
The agency also counted victims separately. Of 2,798 victims of religious hate crimes, about 193 faced anti-Sikh bias. Another 34 victims faced anti-Hindu bias.
The number of offenses and victims does not always match. One incident can involve several offenses. It can also affect more than one person.
Meanwhile, the FBI does not list Indian Americans as a separate racial or ethnic group in its national hate crime summary. As a result, the data cannot show how many Indian Americans faced hate crimes in 2025.
Instead, Indian-origin victims could appear under several categories. For example, authorities could classify a case as anti-Asian, anti-Hindu, or anti-Sikh. The classification depends on the circumstances and the information provided by local law enforcement.
The FBI reported 7,200 single-bias offenses linked to race, ethnicity, or ancestry. Anti-Asian bias accounted for 5.8% of those cases, or about 418 offenses. Among 7,427 victims in that category, about 438 faced anti-Asian bias.
However, the FBI does not break the anti-Asian category down by national origin. Therefore, the national data cannot show how many victims were Indian American.
Overall, reported hate crime incidents declined in 2025. Agencies recorded 11,679 incidents in 2024 compared with 10,881 last year. That marks a drop of about 6.8%.
Offenses also fell. The total declined from 13,683 in 2024 to 13,026 in 2025. Similarly, the number of victims dropped from 14,243 to 13,438.
The FBI also used a separate comparison that included only agencies that provided at least six comparable months of data in both years. That measure showed a 7% decline in incidents, from 11,404 in 2024 to 10,606 in 2025.
Hate crimes against people made up about 66.6% of all offenses. Property crimes accounted for 31.5%, while crimes against society represented 1.9%.
Among crimes against people, intimidation made up 43.1% of offenses. Simple assault accounted for another 35.8%. For property crimes, destruction, damage, or vandalism represented 73.3% of offenses.
The FBI collected hate crime information from 16,791 law enforcement agencies. Those agencies covered 95.3% of the U.S. population. In addition, 3,067 agencies reported at least one hate crime during the year.
