PARIS (Diya TV) — President Donald Trump praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of their bilateral meeting at the Group of Seven (G7) Summit, describing the Indian leader as “calm, cool, and a total killer” during remarks to world leaders.

The comments came as Trump and Modi met on the sidelines of the summit for discussions on trade, artificial intelligence, economic growth, supply chains, and global security issues. The meeting marked their first formal bilateral talks in more than a year.

Speaking during a working lunch at the G7 Summit, Trump compared his own personality with Modi’s leadership style.

“Unlike PM Modi, who’s calm, cool, and a total killer, I am not. Look at him,” Trump said as leaders gathered before their talks. The remark drew attention because it highlighted Trump’s continued admiration for Modi despite recent speculation about tensions between the two leaders.

Trump’s use of the phrase “total killer” was intended as praise. He has previously used the expression to describe Modi’s political skills, leadership abilities, and negotiating strength. The leaders later held discussions focused on strengthening U.S.-India relations and addressing major global challenges.

According to officials, Trump and Modi planned to discuss several important topics during their meeting.

The agenda included economic growth, investment partnerships, artificial intelligence, supply chain resilience, and global security concerns. Both countries continue to deepen cooperation in technology, defense, and trade. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the G7 outreach session in Evian, where leaders from G7 nations and partner countries gathered to discuss international cooperation.

Before the working session began, Trump and Modi exchanged greetings and briefly spoke with each other. The two leaders shook hands and posed for photographs alongside other world leaders attending the summit. The outreach session focused on forging new partnerships and rebuilding international solidarity. Representatives from the World Bank and the African Development Bank also participated in the discussions.

The interaction between Trump and Modi attracted attention because it appeared more formal than some of their previous meetings. Observers noted that the leaders greeted each other with a handshake rather than the warm embraces that often characterized their earlier encounters. The change prompted speculation about possible strains in the relationship.

However, Trump’s comments at the summit suggested that the personal rapport between the two leaders remains strong. His public praise of Modi appeared to reinforce the close relationship they have built over the years. Analysts say personal chemistry has often played an important role in U.S.-India diplomatic ties.

This is not the first time Trump has spoken positively about Modi.

Earlier this month, Trump congratulated Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving prime minister. Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump referred to Modi as a friend and praised his leadership.

“Congratulations to my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on becoming India’s longest-serving Prime Minister — and a great one he is,” Trump wrote.

Trump also described Modi as a “strong, healthy, and wise man” and said he expected the Indian leader to enjoy many more years of success. The U.S. president used similar language during the 2024 presidential campaign. In a podcast interview, Trump called Modi “the nicest human being” and again described him as a “total killer,” pointing to his effectiveness as a political leader.

The latest Trump-Modi meeting comes at a time when U.S.-India relations continue to grow in importance. Both countries are working together on technology development, defense cooperation, trade expansion, and regional security. They also share interests in strengthening supply chains and advancing artificial intelligence initiatives.
