MILPITAS, Calif. (Diya TV) — A live production of “Ram Leela – A Musical Reenactment” is scheduled for Oct. 17 at the India Community Center in Milpitas, according to event organizers.
The free performance is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at 525 Los Coches St. Organizers said the program will run approximately 90 minutes.
Ayaansh Group of Mumbai will present the production, which tells the story of Rama through music, theater and narration. Organizers said the performance draws from 108 mankas from the Ramcharitmanas.
Ramlila is a traditional dramatic performance of the Ramayana that incorporates song, narration, recital and dialogue. UNESCO inscribed the tradition on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.
UNESCO says many Ramlila performances are based on the Ramcharitmanas, a 16th-century retelling of the Ramayana by poet Tulsidas.
The India Community Center lists its main Milpitas facility at 525 Los Coches St.
