ORLANDO (Diya TV) — After nearly two years of legal battles and tensions, Walt Disney World and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have reached a settlement agreement, marking the end of a highly publicized feud. The resolution comes following disputes over the control of Disney’s future development in the state.

In a meeting, members of Florida’s Central Florida Tourism Oversight District approved the settlement, putting an end to protracted litigation initiated by DeSantis’ takeover of the district from Disney-aligned supporters. This move came after Disney voiced opposition to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, championed by the governor.

The contentious law, banning discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity in early grade classrooms, prompted clashes between DeSantis and Disney, with the company becoming a focal point of the governor’s rhetoric until his recent suspension of his presidential campaign.

Under the settlement, agreements made by Disney supporters on the board regarding the resort’s development prior to the state’s intervention would be rendered null and void. Instead, the district will operate under an earlier plan, allowing for continued engagement between Disney and the new leadership of the district.

Disney President Jeff Vahle expressed satisfaction with the agreement, highlighting its potential for continued investment and job creation in the state. Governor DeSantis also welcomed the resolution, asserting vindication on the actions taken by his administration.

As part of the settlement, Disney has agreed to pause its appeal in a separate lawsuit against DeSantis, alleging retaliation for its opposition to the 2022 bill.
