NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — Federal health officials in the U.S. are now starting to focus even more attention on the highly contagious Covid-19 variant out of India.  Experts warn under vaccinated areas in the U.S. could become hot spots for the mutation. While U.S. case reports of the variant first detected in India is still below 1%, the growth rate remains unclear due to the small sample size.

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is in the U-S this week, focused on trying to bring back as many doses of the coronavirus vaccine as possible. He’s also meeting with leaders from American pharmaceutical companies and exploring the possibility of joint vaccine production.

And the newly formed Asian American Foundation has raised more than one billion dollars, to fight racism against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The non profit is led by Indian American Sonal Shah who recently met with President Joe Biden and vice president Kamala Harris, to highlight the group’s mission.  The Foundation says it’s also trying to highlight the long history of anti-Asian racism in America and is pushing for more Asian American history in school programs and textbooks.
