VANCOUVER (Diya TV) — Gunmen opened fire on Reflection Banquet Hall in Surrey, Canada, early on June 7 in what authorities are investigating as a targeted act of intimidation. Satish Kumar, the property owner and President of Laxmi Narayan Mandir, said he received an extortion call demanding $2 million. “I told them I would not give them any money and that I was not scared of them,” he stated.

The next day, shooters targeted another one of his businesses — O Hub, at 128 Street and 70 Avenue. Kumar confirmed the same attackers fired at both locations. He said they also called him again and threatened further attacks unless he paid the money.

Kumar believes some individuals in the community are helping the shooters. “This is not just a personal attack — this is a threat to the safety and unity of our entire community,” he said. Because of this, he urged local residents and community organizations to unite. “This is a wake-up call. If we don’t come together now, more people and businesses may become targets,” he added.

Surrey Police said shots were fired and they have launched an investigation. Officers have started reviewing surveillance footage and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Although the banquet hall was closed during the first attack, police arrived two days later to begin their probe.

Meanwhile, community leaders are planning an emergency meeting. They aim to address safety concerns and work with law enforcement to stop these incidents. In response to the attacks, police have promised increased patrols in the area.

Kumar stressed that the community must remain strong. “This is a threat to the entire community,” he said. “We have to stand together and show that we will not be intimidated.”
