Using archived footage, the film tells the story of the “Rehab” hitmaker’s life, before her unfortunate and premature death at the age of 27. The film also won a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award just one night before the Grammys. The British Academy is familiar territory for Kapadia, he’s won there five times previous. Kapadia’s work in the documentary field is vast — he previously directed a biopic of the life and career of legendary Formula 1 race car driver Ayrton Senna,. Kapadia’s most well-known feature is “The Warrior,” which stars Irrfan Khan and Puru Chibber.
