COLUMBUS, Ohio (Diya TV) — Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy’s wealth has become a campaign issue as he faces Democratic nominee Amy Acton in Ohio’s Nov. 3 election.

Acton has described Ramaswamy as a “self-funding billionaire” and contrasted his private-jet travel with her use of an older Jeep. Her campaign says Ramaswamy spent nearly $700,000 on air travel, though the figure comes from the campaign’s own analysis.

Ramaswamy has defended his business record and said voters should celebrate financial success. The Cincinnati native founded the biotechnology company Roivant Sciences in 2014 and stepped down as its chief executive in 2021.

Forbes recently estimated Ramaswamy’s net worth at about $2.3 billion. Such estimates can fluctuate with stock prices and may not reflect privately held assets or liabilities. Much of his fortune comes from his stake in Roivant, whose shares have risen sharply this year.

Roivant’s recent gains followed several business developments. The Food and Drug Administration approved LISRAYA, or brepocitinib, for adults with dermatomyositis in August. The company also reported positive Phase 2 trial results in September for mosliciguat, an experimental treatment for pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease.

A Roivant subsidiary and Arbutus Biopharma also reached a settlement with Moderna in March over patents involving technology used in COVID-19 vaccines. Moderna paid $950 million in July, while another $1.3 billion depends on the outcome of an appeal.

Ramaswamy and Acton won their respective party nominations May 5. Acton previously led the Ohio Department of Health, while Ramaswamy ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
