LOS ANGELES (Diya TV) — Renowned Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, according to law enforcement sources. The shocking deaths have sent waves of grief through the entertainment industry and beyond.

Police arrested the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, 32, on Sunday night in connection with the killings. Authorities booked him on suspicion of murder and held him on $4 million bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the case.

Officers responded to a call at the Reiners’ Brentwood residence on Sunday afternoon. Inside the home, they found Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, suffering from multiple knife wounds. Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene, officials said. Police have not released a motive. The investigation remains active, and detectives continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the Reiners,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said Monday. He added that the department would work closely with prosecutors as the case moves forward. Authorities took Nick Reiner into custody several hours after officers discovered the bodies. Law enforcement sources said he was arrested without incident. Court records show he is being held pending further legal proceedings.

The Reiner family released a statement expressing deep sorrow. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the family said. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

A neighbor told ABC News that several well-known figures arrived at the home after police secured the scene. Actors Billy Crystal and Larry David were among those seen visiting the residence.

“Billy looked like he was about to cry,” the neighbor said.

The neighbor described the Reiners as an active presence in the community. The family owns two homes across the street from each other, she said. Rob and Michele lived in one house, while their daughter and her children lived in the other.

“They’re a big presence on the block,” the neighbor said. “They’re always having parties.”

Rob Reiner was one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers. He directed and produced a string of iconic films that shaped American pop culture. His work includes “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally…,” “Stand By Me,” “This Is Spinal Tap,” and “A Few Good Men.”

Reiner also achieved fame as an actor. He starred as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom “All in the Family” from 1971 to 1978. He won two Emmy Awards for the role. Born to comedian Carl Reiner and actress and singer Estelle Lebost, Reiner grew up immersed in entertainment. His career spanned decades and earned him respect as both a creative force and a vocal advocate for social and economic justice.

Tributes arrived quickly from leaders in politics and entertainment. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the deaths “a devastating loss for our city and our country.” She said Reiner’s contributions “reverberate throughout American culture and society.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he was heartbroken by the tragedy. “His boundless empathy made his stories timeless,” Newsom said. “Rob will be remembered for his remarkable filmography and for his extraordinary contribution to humanity.”

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama also shared their condolences. “Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele,” they said in a statement. The Lear family, closely connected to Reiner through “All in the Family,” also expressed grief. “The world is unmistakably darker tonight,” the family said.

Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner married in 1989 and shared three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Reiner is also survived by his daughter, Tracy Reiner, from his first marriage to filmmaker Penny Marshall, who died in 2018. As investigators continue their work, Hollywood and fans worldwide mourn the loss of a legendary filmmaker and his wife, whose lives ended in a tragedy that has stunned an entire community.
