JERSEY CITY, NJ (Diya TV) — A 29-year-old Indian man was found dead in New Jersey Sunday night, his cause of death remains unknown, but the deceased family said his death was the result of a “personal issue.”

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted Sunday that the Indian Consulate “has spoken to the father of the deceased in Massachusetts. He says this is a personal family tragedy.”

Reports indicate the victims death should not be linked to a series of hate crimes that have been occurring in the U.S. in recent weeks. Three men in three different cities across the country have been subject of attacks, raising the broader concern of the safety of Indian-Americans in the U.S. India’s Ambassador to the U.S., Navtej Sarna, reached out to the State Department to convey his “deep concerns” to the government on recent tragic incidents involving Harnish Patel, Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Deep Rai.

The U.S. government in response assured India of working with all agencies to ensure “speedy justice” to the victims in the incidents.

Details of cause of death and police comments are yet to emerge.
