WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s 148th birthday on October 2, several community leaders visited the the Embassy of India to honor one of India’s great leaders.
The Washington event featured Ambassador Navtej Sarna paying floral tributes to the Gandhi statue located in front of the Embassy premises. Sarna addressed the gathering of approximately 200. A cultural program consisting of patriotic songs was also presented.

Additional ceremonies were held around the World, including in Canada and France.
The UN dubbed the day, International Day of Non-Violence in honor of the former Indian leader.

Recognition of the birthday also was honored by leaders in Uganda.
