DOHA, Qatar (Diya TV) — Twelve Indian nationals were among 13 people killed in an explosion at a gas facility in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, officials confirmed Monday. The incident has drawn attention across India and Qatar as authorities continue to investigate the cause of the deadly accident.

The explosion occurred Sunday evening at the Barzan local gas supply facility during the start-up of operations, according to QatarEnergy. The blast triggered a fire and caused significant casualties. As a result, 13 people lost their lives, while 66 others suffered injuries.

The Indian Embassy in Doha said Qatari authorities confirmed the deaths of 12 Indian citizens. The embassy also stated that all injured individuals remain in stable condition and are receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the embassy said it is working closely with Qatari authorities to assist affected families. Officials are also coordinating efforts to send the mortal remains of the deceased to India as quickly as possible.

“Our Embassy is working in close contact with the Qatari authorities to extend all possible help to the Indian nationals and their families affected by this incident,” the mission said in a statement posted on X.

Earlier on Monday, Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad bin Shreida Al-Kaabi confirmed during a media briefing that 13 people of Indian and Pakistani origin had died in the accident.

The Indian Embassy expressed deep concern after the incident. It also said it stands in solidarity with the government and people of Qatar during this difficult period. In addition, officials wished a speedy recovery for those injured and prayed for the safety of individuals who were initially reported missing.

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior later released more details about the accident. According to the ministry, a technical malfunction during operations caused the explosion. The incident resulted in fatalities and injuries involving workers from several nationalities.

Security agencies responded immediately after the blast. Emergency response teams in Ras Laffan quickly reached the site and activated approved emergency procedures. Furthermore, rescue teams completed search and response operations at the facility.

Authorities transported the injured to nearby medical centers for treatment. Doctors continue to monitor their condition, although officials reported that all injured individuals remain stable.

Investigators are now examining the exact technical causes of the accident. Officials aim to determine how the malfunction occurred and whether additional factors contributed to the explosion.

At the same time, authorities sought to reassure the public. The Ministry of Interior said inspectors detected no leaks following the incident. Officials also stated that the explosion poses no threat to public safety or the surrounding environment.

Ras Laffan Industrial City serves as one of Qatar’s most important energy hubs. The industrial complex plays a major role in the country’s natural gas sector and supports key energy operations.

Because of the facility’s importance, the accident has raised concerns about industrial safety and operational procedures. However, authorities have emphasized that investigations remain ongoing and that conclusions will come only after a full review of the evidence.

The tragedy has also sparked grief among families in India. Many now await further information from officials as arrangements move forward for the return of the victims’ remains.

India and Qatar share close economic and labor ties. Thousands of Indian workers contribute to various industries across the Gulf nations, including energy, construction, and services. Therefore, news of the deaths has resonated strongly among communities in both countries.

As investigators continue their work, officials from India and Qatar remain focused on supporting affected families and ensuring proper care for those injured. Meanwhile, both governments have pledged cooperation throughout the investigation process.

The explosion at the Barzan gas facility stands as one of the deadliest industrial accidents reported in Qatar in recent years. Authorities expect to release additional findings once the investigation progresses.
