WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Democratic Oregon Senator Ron Wyden is demanding the resignations of National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth amid reports of a major national security breach. The scandal surrounds a Signal group chat in which high-ranking Trump administration officials supposedly chatted about classified military actions involving Yemen.
The controversy erupted when Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, was accidentally added to the group chat. The group chat allegedly included senior officials like Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The content of the group chat included preparations for airstrikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen, which triggered concerns regarding how classified information is handled.
At a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said that “no classified material” was transmitted in the chat. But Virginia Democratic Senate Mark Warner, Vice Chairman of the Committee, was incredulous. He questioned Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe about joining the chat, citing the risk of sharing sensitive information on open platforms.
President Donald Trump minimized the occurrence, referring to it as a small “glitch” and insisting that no classified material was leaked. He has also affirmed his confidence in Waltz, saying he has no intention of firing him.
Despite these assurances, the event has precipitated a larger debate regarding cybersecurity procedures in the administration. Senator Warner highlighted the need for proper security procedures, explaining that such blunders could compromise American lives.
The FBI, directed by Director Kash Patel, is said to be looking into the issue. But Patel has refused to say if a formal investigation has been opened.
