AHMEDABAD, India (Diya TV) — Rajasthan Royals teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi emerged as the biggest individual star of IPL 2026 despite the Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning the Indian Premier League title.
The 15-year-old batter collected five major awards after a record-breaking season that captured the attention of cricket fans across India and beyond. Sooryavanshi received the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season, and Super Sixes awards during the IPL 2026 final at Narendra Modi Stadium. While the Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated the Gujarat Titans by five wickets to secure their second consecutive IPL championship on May 31, much of the post-match spotlight fell on the young Rajasthan Royals opener.
Sooryavanshi finished IPL 2026 as the tournament’s highest run-scorer. He scored 776 runs and became the youngest player in IPL history to win the Orange Cap. He achieved the feat at just 15 years and 65 days old. The left-handed batter also claimed the Most Valuable Player award after consistently delivering match-winning performances throughout the season. His fearless approach and ability to score quickly made him one of the most dangerous batters in the competition.
Sooryavanshi earned the Super Striker award with an outstanding strike rate of 237.31. He also won the Super Sixes award after smashing a record 72 sixes during the season. His six-hitting spree broke the previous IPL record of 59 sixes set by former West Indies star Chris Gayle in 2012.
The Bihar-born opener produced several historic achievements during the tournament. He became the fastest player in IPL history to reach 1,000 career runs in terms of balls faced. He reached the milestone in only 440 deliveries.
Sooryavanshi also became the first uncapped player to score more than 700 runs in a single IPL season. His aggressive batting helped him score 521 runs during the powerplay overs alone. His remarkable consistency and attacking style transformed the Rajasthan Royals’ batting lineup. Opposing bowlers struggled to contain him throughout the tournament. The teenager attended the IPL final in Ahmedabad to receive his awards and reflected on the lessons he learned during his breakthrough campaign.
“It feels nice, but there is pressure because I am doing interviews. It is a proud moment, and I will try to do well next season, too,” Sooryavanshi said.
He added that adapting to different match situations was one of his biggest learnings from the season.
“You can’t play every game in one mode. You need to read the game situation and play according to the team’s requirements,” he said.
Sooryavanshi’s performances have sparked excitement about his future in Indian cricket. Many observers believe he represents a new generation of aggressive batters capable of succeeding across formats. His combination of power, confidence, and game awareness has drawn praise from cricket legends, including Sachin Tendulkar. His ability to adjust his approach based on match conditions has impressed coaches and analysts. Those qualities suggest a level of maturity rarely seen in players of his age. The historic IPL season has already positioned him as one of the most promising young talents in world cricket.
Gujarat Titans fast bowler Kagiso Rabada won the Purple Cap after finishing as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 29 wickets. His Gujarat Titans teammate Sai Sudharsan received the Most Fours award after hitting 75 boundaries during the season.
Another Gujarat Titans player, Mohammed Siraj, earned the Most Dot Balls award after bowling 172 dot balls. Kolkata Knight Riders batter Manish Pandey won the Catch of the Season award for his spectacular one-handed catch to dismiss Tim David. Punjab Kings received the Fair Play Award in recognition of their sportsmanship and commitment to ethical conduct throughout the tournament.
Following his outstanding IPL campaign, Sooryavanshi will join the India A squad for an ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan beginning June 9. The young batter has identified fitness as a key area for improvement. He hopes to remain injury-free and maintain his high-performance levels. The upcoming series will provide another opportunity for the teenage sensation to prove that his IPL 2026 success was only the beginning of a potentially extraordinary cricket career.
