NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will travel to India this week for high-level trade discussions with Indian officials as Washington and New Delhi continue efforts to advance a broader bilateral trade agreement.

Greer is scheduled to meet with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and other senior government leaders in New Delhi. The meetings will focus on the United States-India Joint Statement and an Interim Agreement that form part of ongoing negotiations for a larger U.S.-India Bilateral Trade Agreement.

The visit highlights growing economic cooperation between the United States and India. It also reflects the commitment of both countries to strengthen trade ties and expand business opportunities.

The trade negotiations began after President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the initiative on Feb. 13, 2025. Since then, officials from both nations have worked to build a framework that supports stronger economic growth and greater market access.

During his visit, Greer will discuss ways to create a fair and balanced trading relationship between the two countries. In addition, officials are expected to review progress made under the Interim Agreement and explore areas for future cooperation.

The United States and India have expanded their economic partnership in recent years. Trade between the two countries has grown steadily, making the relationship increasingly important for businesses, investors, and consumers. As a result, both governments have placed greater emphasis on improving trade policies and reducing barriers.

Moreover, officials from both sides view the trade talks as an opportunity to deepen economic engagement. They also hope to create conditions that encourage investment and support long-term growth.

Greer’s visit comes at a time when both nations seek stronger economic partnerships in an evolving global marketplace. Therefore, the discussions in New Delhi could help shape the next phase of U.S.-India trade relations.

While in India, Greer will meet directly with key policymakers responsible for trade and economic development. These meetings will allow both sides to address priorities and identify areas where cooperation can increase.

The U.S.-India Bilateral Trade Agreement remains a major focus for policymakers in Washington and New Delhi. Supporters believe the agreement could boost trade, strengthen supply chains, and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

Following his meetings in India, Greer will travel to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for another series of high-level discussions. There, he will meet with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Head of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva, and Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev.

The Uzbekistan visit will continue the administration’s efforts to expand economic engagement with international partners. In addition, the meetings will focus on trade relations and economic cooperation between the United States and Uzbekistan.

Greer plans to discuss ways to achieve what U.S. officials describe as fair, balanced, and reciprocal trade. He will also exchange views with Uzbek leaders on economic priorities and opportunities for future collaboration.

Uzbekistan has pursued economic reforms in recent years and has sought stronger ties with global markets. Consequently, trade discussions between the two countries have gained importance as both sides look for new areas of cooperation.
