SPARROWS POINT, Md. (Diya TV) — President Donald Trump announced a submarine manufacturing project Tuesday combining three-point-seven billion dollars in private investment from Anduril Industries with a Navy contract worth up to two-point-nine billion dollars.
Anduril plans to build Arsenal-2 at Sparrows Point in Baltimore County. The facility will manufacture components and large assemblies for Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines, supplying General Dynamics Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding.
The Navy contract ties payments to demonstrated production results. Anduril expects the Maryland facility to begin production in 2030 and employ about three thousand one hundred workers. The company plans to start producing components at a California facility two years earlier, USNI News reported.
The announcement also drew attention to Anduril’s connection to Donald Trump Jr., a partner at venture capital firm 1789 Capital. The firm invested in Anduril during a funding round last year.
An ABC News analysis found that companies backed by Trump Jr. and Eric Trump received more than six billion dollars in active or promised government contracts after their investments. Anduril had also received federal contracts before those investments.
Congressional Democrats have asked the Pentagon’s inspector general to investigate awards involving companies linked to the president’s sons.
A spokesperson for the brothers told ABC News that their investments reflect independent business judgment and that neither seeks to influence government procurement decisions.
The reported investment ties and contract awards do not establish preferential treatment. The Maryland project aims to expand the supply chain supporting U.S. submarine construction.
