WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle disputes the authenticity of messages cited in a Wall Street Journal report alleging she sought money from a Republican donor while discussing access to Trump administration officials.

The Journal reported that Guilfoyle asked Eric Deters, a former congressional candidate from Kentucky, to pay one hundred thousand dollars toward her American Express bill shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing in July last year.

Deters had sought her help getting administration officials to address personal tax and legal matters. The newspaper reported that he offered payments of up to one million dollars if she succeeded.

In messages the Journal attributed to Guilfoyle, she sent payment instructions and suggested that a direct transfer to American Express would not identify their financial arrangement. Other reported messages warned Deters against putting their discussions in writing.

Deters did not make the requested payment and told the newspaper that Guilfoyle had not delivered the assistance he sought.

Her lawyer, Jesse Binnall, told the Journal that she disputed the messages’ authenticity but did not provide specific objections. A U.S. Embassy official defended her integrity and said she remained committed to representing the American people.

Vice President JD Vance addressed a general question about selling access during a Thursday news conference. The reporter did not identify Guilfoyle by name.

“Obviously I don’t love that,” Vance said, while emphasizing that he did not know enough about the specific case to assess the allegations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio also declined to address the report when reporters questioned him before he departed Greece Thursday. He said he did not know whether the allegations were true.
