WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — President Trump has invited Indian Prime Minister Modi to meet with him at the White House next week, according to a White House official.
The invitation comes shortly after the two leaders had a telephone conversation where they discussed matters ranging from immigration, India buying more American security equipment, to having a level-playing field of bilateral trade.
India is one of the strategic partner countries of the United States to counterbalance China’s influence, and through this bilateral relationship, India could strive to expand trade ties with the U.S. and bring in more skilled worker visas for its citizens. At the same time, India wishes not to attract those previously threatened tariffs from President Trump, who has been targeting India’s high tariffs on U.S. exports.
The United States is India’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade amounting to more than $118 billion in the 2023/24 fiscal year. India has a trade surplus of $32 billion with the U.S.
