WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — President Trump announced Monday that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) will invest another $100 billion in U.S. semiconductor production, increasing its presence in Arizona.

This investment adds to TSMC’s earlier commitment of $65 billion, making its overall U.S. investment around $165 billion. The fresh funds will finance the building of five more chip plants in Arizona to diversify TSMC’s manufacturing base outside Taiwan amid increasing political tensions with China.

“We have to be able to make the chips and semiconductors we need right here,” Trump said in the announcement, highlighting domestic semiconductor manufacturing for national security. TSMC’s CEO C.C. Wei said he was looking forward to the increased investment, underscoring the company’s focus on innovation and development in the semiconductor sector.

The firm has already started manufacturing cutting-edge four-nanometer chips for U.S. clients in Arizona and aims to begin manufacturing the world’s most advanced two-nanometer technology by 2028. This news comes with the U.S. government making moves to enhance local chip manufacturing. In 2022, the CHIPS and Science Act was signed by former President Joe Biden, distributing $52.7 billion toward American semiconductor research and production.

TSMC had previously been given $6.6 billion in U.S. government subsidies for the production of semiconductors in Phoenix, Arizona. The increased investment will create thousands of well-paying jobs and advance the U.S. semiconductor infrastructure, lessening dependence on foreign chip production.
