WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he has initiated negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. In a 90-minute phone call, the two leaders agreed to commence immediate peace talks and discussed plans for reciprocal visits to each other’s countries.

“We want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the war with Russia/Ukraine,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. He added that both he and Putin strongly believe in the principle of “common sense” and have agreed to work closely, including visiting each other’s nations.

Following his conversation with Putin, Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “The conversation went very well. He, like President Putin, wants to make peace,” Trump stated. He also mentioned that Zelenskyy would meet with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday in Munich to further discuss the path to peace.

Zelenskyy’s office confirmed the hour-long call with Trump, during which they explored opportunities to achieve peace and discussed Ukraine’s technological capabilities, including drones and other advanced industries. “We talked about opportunities to achieve peace, discussed our readiness to work together … and Ukraine’s technological capabilities,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.

The Kremlin also confirmed the discussion between Trump and Putin, noting that both parties agreed to have their respective teams start negotiations immediately. Putin extended an invitation to Trump to visit Moscow, signaling a potential thaw in U.S.-Russia relations.

This development marks a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy, as the Trump administration moves towards direct engagement with both Russian and Ukrainian leadership to seek a resolution to the conflict that has caused extensive loss of life and displacement since its inception.
