LONDON (Diya TV) — British Airways has opened an investigation after three pilots operating a flight from Hyderabad to London Heathrow reportedly fell ill with suspected food poisoning. The incident happened on British Airways Flight BA276 after the crew completed an overnight stop in Hyderabad. Although the pilots experienced symptoms during the journey, the airline said the flight remained safe, and passenger safety was never at risk.
The incident has raised questions about crew health, airline safety procedures, and hotel catering arrangements. As a result, British Airways has started reviewing its crew accommodation in Hyderabad while officials continue to investigate the cause of the reported illness.
One of the three pilots became seriously ill during the flight and reportedly could not perform flight duties while the aircraft cruised at about 30,000 feet. Crew members gave the pilot oxygen during the flight. After the aircraft landed safely in London, medical teams provided further treatment.
Meanwhile, the other two pilots also experienced symptoms during the journey. However, they continued carrying out their responsibilities, even though their condition reportedly became worse before landing. Despite the health issues, the airline said the flight operated safely because the crew followed established safety procedures throughout the trip.
British Airways stressed that passenger safety remained its highest priority. The airline also said it continues to support the affected crew members while the investigation moves forward.
In a statement, British Airways said, “The welfare of our colleagues is a top priority, and we are reviewing crew accommodation in this location following some isolated reports of sickness.”
Early findings suggest the three pilots shared breakfast at their hotel in Hyderabad before departing for London. They also drank bottled water supplied by an outside company. Investigators are now examining whether either source could have contributed to the suspected food poisoning. However, officials have not confirmed the exact cause of the illness.
After the flight, all three pilots filed air safety reports. In addition, investigators asked them to provide samples to help identify the cause of their symptoms. Those tests may help determine whether contaminated food, water, or another factor led to the incident.
At the same time, British Airways has started reviewing its hotel arrangements in Hyderabad. The airline wants to ensure that crew members receive safe meals and accommodation during layovers. Even so, the company has not announced any changes to its operations in the city.
