CHENNAI (Diya TV) — Tamil Nadu’s powerful leader J. Jayalalithaa known by her followers “Amma” (meaning mother in South Indian languages) to millions has taken her last breath in Chennai, Tamil Nadu at 11.30 PM (IST) on December 12, 2016.

The hospital ‘Apollo Hospitals’ released a press release mentioning “Our Honorable Chief Minister (CM) Selvi J. Jayalalithaa was admitted on September 22, 2016 with complaints of fever and dehydration and underlying co-morbidities. Honorable Chief Minister responded well to the multidisciplinary care and subsequently recovered to take food orally.” The press release further continued mentioning that “Unfortunately, the Chief Minister suffered a massive cardiac arrest on the evening of the 4th December. However despite our best efforts the Chief Minister’s underlying conditions rendered her unable to recover and she passed away at 11.30 PM”

Jayalalithas’s party All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) tweeted, “The Iron Lady of India is no more”

 Amitabh Bachchan remembering her contribution to cinema and condoling her death tweeted, “Jayalalithaa ji the only CM of a State that celebrated 100 years of Indian Cinema”.

After Applo Hospitals declared the death with J. Jayalalitha, the place was a huge mess with her followers and AIADMK workers.  ANI, a news agency tweeted that the AIADMK workers break barricades, police resort to lathi charge out Jayalalitha’s house.

Another new step to Tamil Nadu, Former Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s trusted aide and Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu has been unanimously elected as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. A senior leader of AIADMK party said that, “Panneerselvam will become the Chief Minister while Sasikala herself or M Thambidurai, AIADMK MP and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker, will be elected party general secretary”.
