LONDON (Diya TV) — Iga Świątek made history Saturday at Wimbledon, capturing her first women’s singles title dominantly. The eighth-seeded Polish star defeated American Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in just 57 minutes, winning one of the most one-sided Grand Slam finals in tennis history.

Świątek, 24, delivered a flawless performance on Centre Court. She became the first player to win a Wimbledon final without dropping a single game since 1911. Her straight-sets win over the 13th-seeded Anisimova matched Steffi Graf’s 1988 French Open final win over Natasha Zvereva, the last time a Grand Slam title match ended 6-0, 6-0.

The win gave Świątek her sixth Grand Slam title and first on grass. She had previously won four French Opens and the 2022 U.S. Open, all on clay and hard courts. With this title, she becomes just the eighth woman in tennis history to win major titles on all three surfaces.

“It seems super surreal,” Świątek said after the match. “I didn’t even dream of winning Wimbledon because for me it was way too far.”

For Anisimova, 22, the final was a disappointing end to an otherwise strong tournament. She reached her first Grand Slam final by defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, but couldn’t carry that momentum into Saturday’s match.

Nerves showed early for the American. She was broken in her first service game and committed 14 unforced errors in the first set alone. Świątek raced to a 6-0 lead in just 25 minutes and never let up.

In total, Anisimova made 28 unforced errors. She won only six points on serve in the first set and double-faulted at key moments.

“I wish I could put on a better performance,” Anisimova said through tears during the trophy ceremony. “I ran out of gas a bit today, but I’ll keep working and I hope to be back.”

Świątek was nearly perfect in her run to the title. She dropped just one set throughout the tournament and crushed her semifinal opponent, Belinda Bencic, losing only two games. Her Wimbledon performance comes two weeks after reaching the final at the Bad Homburg grass-court event in Germany.

The Polish star’s sharp focus and calm demeanor carried her through the tournament as top seeds fell early. Despite never advancing past the quarterfinals at Wimbledon before this year, Świątek looked increasingly confident on grass.

She finished the final with a 55-24 edge in total points, needing just 10 winners to dismantle her opponent.

Świątek also became the first Polish player ever to win a Wimbledon singles title. Her victory raised her world ranking from No. 4 to No. 3 and confirmed her place among the sport’s elite.

“I feel like I’m already an experienced player after winning Slams before, but I never expected this one,” she said.

Although Świątek won the Wimbledon junior title in 2018, her transition to professional success on grass took time. Saturday’s win silenced any doubts about her ability to conquer all surfaces.

Saturday’s final marked the eighth straight year a first-time women’s champion lifted the Wimbledon trophy. Świątek now stands 6-0 in Grand Slam finals, a record matched by only a few in the Open Era.

With a dominant performance, a growing fan base, and major titles on every surface, Iga Świątek has firmly established herself as one of tennis’s biggest stars. Her historic Wimbledon win could be the start of another championship streak.“I didn’t expect this one,” she repeated with a smile. “This is like the best thing that a player can have.”
