WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Rallying behind Huma Abedin, South Asians from around the country have come out in support of the Indian-American aide to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton after she was attacked by the Republican Hindu Coalition for her ethnicity and religion.

“Condemning anyone simply because of their religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation is against the pluralistic ethos of Hinduism and has no place in a democracy,” said Suhag Shukla in an interview with Indian Express.

Shukla served as the executive director of the Hindu-American Foundation, a respected group in the U.S. which is governed by a group of second generation Hindu Americans.

“This needs to be opposed by all South Asians,” said Rajwant Singh said, an highly-touted Sikh American, of the TV spot being run by the Republican Hindu Coalition, which can be viewed below.

In the commercial, the Republican Hindu Coalition brands Abedin as “pro-terrorist,” and, questions her “Pakistani and Saudi background.” “The current attack on Huma and tying her emails to Hillary is a destructive and vile move of Donald Trump, who is targeting her because she is a woman, she is an immigrant and she is a Muslim,” said Kaleem Khwaja, executive director of the Association of Indian Muslims of America.

“God willing, next week Hillary will win the election to become president,” Khwaia added. “That will be the day many all over the world are waiting for. Thereafter, Huma is expected to get a good position in the Hillary White House and do well in safeguarding Hillary’s programs.”

Meanwhile, Abedin appeared alongside the Democratic nominee during a recent fundraiser in Washington D.C., her first appearance since the FBI announced last week it was re-opening the case regarding Clinton’s use of a private email server, this time to have a look at the emails Clinton allegedly exchanged with Abedin’s estranged husband, Anthony Weiner.

She was joined at the event by famed designer Diane Von Furstenberg and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
