SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) – Separatist leader Amritpal Singh has been arrested by Indian police after weeks on the run. The 30-year-old preacher is a supporter of the Khalistan movement for a separate Sikh homeland. He captured national attention in February when hundreds of his supporters stormed a police station in Ajnala, a town in Punjab state, with wooden batons, swords and guns to demand the release of a jailed aide.
Los Angeles Councilwoman Nithya Raman is facing criticism for blaming Toyota for the surge in catalytic converter thefts in the area instead of the actual crooks. The Indian American’s comments were recorded in a recent town hall where she was defending her no-vote arguing that the responsibility for the thefts should fall on the automaker.
And 6 Indian Americans have been elected to the Academy of Arts & Sciences. They include Priyamvada Natarajan of Yale University, MIT’s Senthil Todadri, Harvard’s Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan, Vidya Madhavan at the University of Illinois, Ruma Banerjee and the University of Michigan, and Columbia University’s Sankar Gosh.
