WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday met Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the first bilateral meeting the secretary had for his first face-to-face contact since his term began. At the meeting, he underlined deepening and strengthening US-India relations in technology and defense, as well as more cooperation in terms of energy supply.
Their meeting followed a Quad foreign ministers’ summit, where the U.S., India, Australia, and Japan pledged to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Rubio and Jaishankar agreed to deepen collaboration in maritime, technology, and economic security as global threats grow. Jaishankar, who called the meeting “delightful,” credited Rubio as a strong advocate for U.S.-India strategic ties, particularly on issues related to China and Pakistan.
The two leaders discussed a range of regional and global concerns to highlight the need to move the U.S.-India partnership forward. Secretary Rubio also noted the Trump administration’s priorities on irregular migration and advancing economic ties between the two nations, including discussions on trade and investment opportunities.
Jaishankar also met US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz at the White House on Tuesday. The two meetings marked a shared commitment to enhancing global stability and prosperity through closer US-India cooperation.
In recent years, U.S.-India relations have flourished, particularly in the areas of technology and defense. The ongoing dialogue is expected to strengthen further economic ties, with both countries looking to tackle complex issues such as nuclear energy, trade, and migration.
