SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Satish Kumar Sivan has taken charge as the new Consul General of India in San Francisco, succeeding Dr. K. Srikar Reddy, who is moving on to serve as India’s Ambassador to Qatar.
Sivan is a 2005-batch Indian Foreign Service officer with two decades of government experience, including a tour at the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C. as First Secretary, giving him direct exposure to U.S.-India relations.
He arrives from Dubai, where he served as Consul General of India to Dubai and the Northern Emirates from October 2023 until this year, assuming that post in a ceremony that included a floral tribute to a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the consulate. In that role, he was succeeded by Dr. Emmadi Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, a 2008-batch IFS officer, in August 2026.
His Dubai portfolio spanned consular services, trade promotion, education and community outreach for one of the world’s largest overseas Indian populations.
Earlier in his career, Sivan served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Seoul from August 2017 to June 2020, and in New Delhi he held postings at the Ministry of External Affairs including Joint Secretary overseeing the Rapid Response Cell and Developmental Partnership Administration Division, which manages India’s grant-in-aid projects in neighboring countries. He holds a Master’s degree in Commerce from the University of Madras.
The San Francisco consulate’s jurisdiction — Northern California, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming — puts Sivan at the center of India-U.S. engagement on technology and trade, covering Silicon Valley and the broader Pacific Northwest tech corridor. The region is also home to more than a million people of Indian origin.
In the role, Sivan will oversee consular services while supporting cultural and educational programming, and engaging with business leaders, tech companies, universities and community organizations across the eight-state jurisdiction.
