SRINAGAR, Jammu and Kashmir (Diya TV) — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and journalist Nidhi Razdan announced their marriage on Saturday, Oct. 31, sharing photographs from the celebrations. Abdullah posted, “A new journey began yesterday.” Razdan replied, “It’s done bro,” indicating that they married the previous day.
The couple kept the announcement brief. Reports said close relatives attended family gatherings in Srinagar and New Delhi, including Abdullah’s parents, Farooq and Mollie Abdullah, and Razdan’s parents, veteran journalist M.K. Razdan and Sarla Razdan. Their posts did not specify where the marriage ceremony took place.
The announcement came three months after the Supreme Court formally ended Abdullah’s marriage to Payal Abdullah. The couple married in England on Sept. 1, 1994, and have two sons, Zahir and Zamir. In a July 31 order, the Supreme Court dissolved the marriage by mutual consent, using its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution.
The divorce dispute had lasted years. A family court rejected Omar Abdullah’s divorce petition in 2016, and the Delhi High Court upheld that decision in December 2023. While his appeal remained before the Supreme Court, Omar and Payal reached a settlement through mediation. They told the court they had lived separately since 2011, saw no possibility of reconciliation and agreed to withdraw pending cases against each other.
Razdan worked at NDTV for nearly two decades, covering national politics and presenting several prime-time news programs before leaving the broadcaster in 2020. The couple’s posts confirmed the marriage but offered no further account of their relationship or plans.
