WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said Sunday she will fight the “ill-conceived and unconstitutional” executive order issued by President Trump last week, which barred entry to those from seven Muslim-majority nations.
Jayapal’s pledge came just after two immigrants being detained at Seattle’s airport were released.
“President Trump’s barbaric executive orders have thrown our nation’s ports into turmoil and struck fear into the hearts of Muslims across the country,” Jayapal said. “The release of the two immigrants held by CBP is a small victory in our fight against the president’s inhumane policies,” she said in a statement.
President Trump should know that this is not over. This is only the beginning of our resistance. We will fight his ill-conceived and unconstitutional executive orders until the very end,” Jayapal vowed.
President Trump’s executive order, which was signed on Friday, has sparked outrage both in the U.S. and abroad. The visas of refugees arriving from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen are being barred entry for the next 90 days, per the president’s order. The two released from Seattle’s airport this morning were traveling different directions — one was headed to Las Vegas for a convention he was attending, the other to meet his family already in the country visiting other relatives.
One of them is a Sudanese citizen who has lived in the UAE for more than twenty years and the other is a Yemeni citizen born in Saudi Arabia. They were both arriving on visitors visas.
