SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Diya TV) — TiE Silicon Valley, a not for profit organization dedicated to fostering and furthering entrepreneurship in both the Bay Area and around the world, announced this week that its board members have created a new lifetime achievement award to recognize the efforts of individuals who embody global impact and transformational leadership.
The board announced Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, former CEO and current executive chairman of Qualcomm Incorporated, as the recipient for the 2016 edition of the award.
“On behalf of 13,000 members of TiE spread across 18 countries, we are proud to confer the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award on Dr. Paul E. Jacobs,” said Venktesh Shula, president of TiE Silicon Valley and chair of TiE Global. “Dr. Jacobs is an innovator and entrepreneur in his own right and has played a transformational role in the mobile industry with his vision and leadership.”
“I am truly honored to be the inaugural recipient of this Lifetime Achievement Award from TiE,” Jacobs said in response to receiving the honor. “For the past 30 years, I have been fortunate to collaborate with many passionate innovators at Qualcomm and throughout the mobile industry. Together, we have built the wireless Internet into humanity’s most widespread technology platform.”
Jacobs has been granted more than 50 patents related to wireless technology and devices. During his tenure, developments which have occurred include the first smartphone based on Palm OS, the inclusion of GPS capabilities in mobile devices and the BREW mobile platform.
He will be presented with the award during this year’s TiEcon Expo, which takes place May 6 and 7 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
The first day of the expo will feature three full-day discussions focusing on the Future of Cloud & IT, Data Economy and Internet of Things. The Saturday session will focus on Trending Tech, Social Entrepreneurship, Youth Entrepreneurship, and a Best Practices track for Entrepreneurs.
