VISAKHAPATNAM, Andhra Pradesh (Diya TV) — Olympic medalist PV Sindhu took a major step toward shaping the future of Indian sports on Wednesday as Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh performed the ceremony for the PV Sindhu Centre for Sports Excellence in Visakhapatnam. The project aims to build a world-class campus that combines sports training, education and athlete development under one roof.
Sindhu attended the ceremony alongside Lokesh and other guests in the Arilova area of the port city. The new center reflects the badminton star’s vision of creating better opportunities for young athletes across India. At the same time, the project seeks to make Visakhapatnam a leading destination for sports and high-performance training.
According to an official release, the PV Sindhu Centre for Sports Excellence will bring together seven sporting disciplines on one campus. In addition, the facility will offer high-performance coaching, sports science, recovery programs, nutrition support, strength and conditioning, and academic learning. As a result, young athletes will have access to a complete training environment designed to help them succeed both on and off the field.
During the event, Lokesh highlighted the importance of the project for Andhra Pradesh. He also shared his thoughts in a post on X after the ceremony. He said he performed the groundbreaking for the Centre for Sports Excellence, where renowned badminton player PV Sindhu has chosen to establish the facility in the garden area of Arilova in Visakhapatnam.
Furthermore, Lokesh said the project would strengthen the city’s growing reputation as a hub for sports, education and talent development. The center also plans to create new opportunities through coaching programs, athlete identification, research partnerships and community outreach initiatives. These efforts could encourage more young people to participate in sports while improving access to quality training.
Sindhu described the center as the most meaningful contribution of her career to Indian sports. She said she is investing a large part of her career earnings into building an institution that can benefit future generations. Moreover, she expressed hope that the project would inspire more young athletes to dream bigger and pursue excellence.
“My dream is to create an ecosystem where young athletes have access to world-class coaching, sports science, education and the support they need to realize their full potential,” Sindhu said in the release.
She also invited companies and philanthropists to support the initiative through corporate social responsibility programs and long-term partnerships. According to Sindhu, collective efforts from businesses and individuals can help build an institution that serves athletes for many years.
The integrated campus will support modern sports science and recovery methods. At the same time, nutrition guidance and strength training will form key parts of the development process.
The center is expected to become a platform for discovering new talent from Andhra Pradesh and other parts of the country. Through research collaborations and outreach programs, it also plans to connect with schools, sports organizations and local communities.
Construction of the PV Sindhu Centre for Sports Excellence is expected to finish by May 2028
