BENGALURU, India (Diya TV) — OpenAI has named former Uber India and South Asia President Prabhjeet Singh as its new Managing Director for India. The appointment marks another major step in the artificial intelligence company’s expansion plans in one of its fastest-growing markets.

Singh will join OpenAI in September. He will report to Kiran Mani, Managing Director for Asia Pacific, the company said on June 26. As the company’s top executive in India, Singh will lead business growth and strengthen OpenAI’s presence across the country.

The leadership change comes as OpenAI increases its focus on India. Demand for generative AI tools continues to rise among consumers, startups, businesses, and public institutions. As a result, the company plans to deepen its engagement across the country’s fast-growing AI ecosystem.

The company also expects Singh to build stronger partnerships across India’s AI ecosystem. In that role, Singh managed Uber’s mobility business across India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. He helped expand services such as Uber Auto, Moto, and Shuttle. These services reached more users and addressed different transportation needs in several markets.

He also led efforts to strengthen Uber’s electric mobility strategy. Under his leadership, the company worked with partners to increase access to electric vehicles and promote cleaner transportation options. As interest in sustainable mobility grew, Uber continued to expand its related initiatives across the region.
