CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Diya TV) — Nita Ambani, Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, delivered a compelling keynote address at Harvard University’s Annual India Conference, which was sponsored in part by Diya TV.
Engaging in a fireside chat with former Harvard Business School Dean Nitin Nohria, Ambani discussed India’s burgeoning global influence in business, policy, and culture.
The conference, themed “From India to the World,” attracted over 1,000 delegates, including policymakers, business leaders, and scholars. Ambani’s session highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage, economic dynamism, and innovative spirit, emphasizing the nation’s contributions to global discourse.
Reflecting on her personal experiences, Ambani shared insights into her journey with Reliance Foundation and her commitment to showcasing India’s soft power. She recounted her travels to Varanasi, where she engaged with local artisans and experienced traditional crafts and cuisine, bringing those experiences back to Mumbai to share with guests.
Ambani also discussed the influence of her father-in-law, Dhirubhai Ambani, and her husband, Mukesh Ambani, on Reliance Industries’ growth. She highlighted Dhirubhai’s resilience after a stroke and Mukesh’s long-term business approach, particularly his early interest in information technology and artificial intelligence.
Discussing the role of wealth in society, Asia’s wealthiest woman recounted having an intensive care unit built at her home for her ailing father, which went on to motivate the Reliance Foundation Hospital. Ambani added while resources are necessary for contributing to society, she and her family enjoy the simple things in life, like eating street food and playing with grandchildren.
In a rapid-fire segment, Ambani expressed a preference for Bollywood over Hollywood, highlighted the importance of youth, and named Amitabh Bachchan as her favorite Bollywood star. She concluded by emphasizing the need for global peace, stating that wars hinder growth and prosperity.
The Annual India Conference at Harvard serves as a platform to discuss India’s evolving role in global affairs, bringing together thought leaders from various sectors to engage in meaningful dialogue.
