NEW YORK (Diya TV) — Abhishek Bachchan and Baba Ramdev will be the stars of this year’s India Day parade in New York City, the former will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshall.
The parade will take place in Manhattan on Aug. 21, according to officials of the Federation of Indian Associations, and will kick off from 39th Street at Madison Ave., culminating near 26th Street and Madison. As in years past, a mammoth crowd of 100,000-plus are expected to attend the parade, which organizers claim is the largest such event outside of India’s celebration of the country’s independence, on August 15.
Bachchan, son of legendary Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, made his film debut in the 2009 picture, “Refugee.” However, he cemented his own legacy with his 2004 performance in the blockbuster action-thriller, “Dhoom.” Since then, Bachchan has starred in several roles, including “Bunty Aur Babli,” “Dhoom 2,” and most recently in “Housefull 3” this year.
Bachchan bought the Pro Kabaddi League franchise team Jaipur Pink Panthers and co-bought the Indian Super League football team Chennaiyin FC. Jaipur Pink Panthers won the first ever championships held in 2014. Chennaiyin FC won the ISL 2015.
Ramdev is best recognized for popularizing yoga among young Indians through his mass yoga camps, the Patanjali Group of Institutions, which he founded. Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna started Patanjali Ayurved in Hardiwar 10 years ago. As of March of this year, the company’s turnover has already surpassed $670 million and is cruising at a monthly rate of about $74 million to $82 million.
