AKRON, Ohio (Diya TV) — Neil Patel, an Indian-origin community leader and economic development advocate, is running for Congress in Ohio’s 13th District. He has framed his campaign around economic revival, job creation and public service. Patel, a Republican, says he wants to bring practical solutions to families facing rising costs. He also highlights his work in building international partnerships, especially between the United States and India.
Patel has centered his campaign on economic issues in Northeast Ohio. He points to rising prices for groceries, gas,s and housing as key concerns for local families.
“Families here are getting crushed,” Patel said in campaign messaging. He stressed that many factories have closed and young workers are leaving the region for better opportunities.
He has proposed bringing back manufacturing and skilled trades jobs. He also wants to cut regulations and offer tax relief to small businesses. Patel says these steps will help boost local economic growth and job creation.
Patel has also made international relations a key part of his campaign. He has emphasized stronger ties between the United States and India. He described himself as “the son of three mothers”—his biological mother, India, and the United States. He says his background gives him a unique ability to build connections. Patel cited past work with lawmakers such as John D. Rockefeller IV, Joe Manchin, and Robert Byrd. He said he worked with them to strengthen U.S.-India partnerships and support regional development.
Patel has called for major investments in infrastructure across Northeast Ohio. He supports improving roads, bridges, broadband access, and water systems. He also wants to make college more affordable. At the same time, he supports expanding skilled trades programs. He says these programs can help prepare workers for in-demand jobs. Patel believes these efforts will help retain young talent in the region and support long-term economic growth.
Healthcare reform is another key issue in Patel’s campaign. He has proposed measures aimed at reducing costs and improving access. He has also emphasized public safety and criminal justice reform. Patel pointed to his work with the Delaware County Community Corrections Planning Board. He said he helped develop reentry programs for people leaving prison.
“Everyone deserves a second chance once they have paid their debt to society,” Patel said.
Patel often shares his personal journey on the campaign trail. He said he arrived in the United States with just $20. He credits Ohio for welcoming his family and giving them opportunities. That experience has shaped his campaign message. Patel says he wants to serve with humility and focus on community needs.
“Every time I meet someone and share the vision of this campaign, I do so with a servant’s heart,” he said.
According to his campaign, Patel has worked to attract foreign investment to Ohio. He says he has helped create jobs and build business partnerships. His campaign also notes his role in bringing Tata Consultancy Services to the state. He says such efforts have strengthened cross-border economic ties and boosted local economies.
Patel has presented his campaign as a call for change rather than a partisan effort. He says voters in Ohio’s 13th District want results, not political division.
“This campaign isn’t about left versus right,” he said. “It’s about Ohio’s 13th District versus a broken system in Washington.”
Ohio’s 13th Congressional District includes parts of Northeast Ohio, including Akron, Canton, Massillon, and Kent. The primary election is scheduled for May 5. Patel says he hopes his message of economic renewal and public service will resonate with voters across the district.
