AUSTIN, Texas (Diya TV) — Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X (formerly Twitter), claimed that mainstream media is instigating his assassination. He made the accusation while defending his support for former President Trump. The mogul asserted that constant negative coverage by the media against him fuels threats to his life.
The comments by Musk are noteworthy, considering increased security threats to him and other public figures. Musk has yet to mention what specific media outlets are calling for his violence.
This isn’t the first time that controversy has touched Musk. He’s previously been accused of posting inflammatory material on his site, and earlier this month, was criticized for speculating about the reason that no assassination attempts have happened yet against President Biden or Vice President Harris. That post was subsequently deleted but inspired the White House to refer to Musk’s comments as “irresponsible.”
Security concerns of the tech mogul have increased in recent days, and reports indicate the protective measures have risen. His statements come at a time when bigger discussions are made concerning the role of media in public perception regarding political figures and if such reporting crosses the line of fostering hostility.
Those are comments that are bound to inflame debates about free speech, the role of the media-and the personal risks which public figures place themselves in by doing so when they discuss divisive issues. He remains a polarizing figure, using his social media presence to give voice and amplification to views he deems important, no matter how much this furthers controversy.
