AIZAWL, India (Diya TV) — The Mizoram government has launched a new digital platform to connect Mizo communities living outside the state and around the world. Called the Mizo DiasporaHub, the portal aims to strengthen ties with the global Mizo diaspora and improve support systems during emergencies.
Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma unveiled the platform, calling it a symbol of unity and a practical tool for collective welfare. He said the Mizo DiasporaHub will allow individuals and welfare associations to register, connect, and coordinate support more effectively.
The Mizo DiasporaHub serves as a central hub for Mizos living across India and abroad. It offers several digital tools designed to improve communication, emergency response, and cultural preservation. The portal includes features like AI-powered translation, SOS alerts, and a directory of registered associations and office-bearers.
It is available as a mobile app on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, as well as in a web version. According to the Chief Minister, the platform will help maintain constant engagement with Mizos living away from home, especially during crises.
“This platform is not only a symbol of unity but also a functional tool to ensure collective welfare and timely intervention,” Lalduhoma said during the launch.
The Mizo Diaspora Cell, which operates under the Chief Minister’s Office, developed the platform. It partnered with LushAITech, a local technology firm. The development came at minimal cost to the government, showcasing a cost-effective model of digital public service innovation.
Pu Vanlaldina Fanai, Chairman of the Mizo Diaspora Cell, said the Cell was formed on June 11, 2024, to tackle the growing challenges faced by Mizos abroad. These include issues such as irregular migration and vulnerability to exploitation.
Fanai highlighted the importance of responsible migration and stressed the need for stronger ties between the diaspora and Mizoram. He also acknowledged support from several government departments, including the Ministry of External Affairs, Home Department, CID & Crime Branch, LESDE, MYC, and Law & Judicials.
At present, the platform is open for registration by Mizo welfare associations based in other Indian states and overseas. Individual registration will become available soon. Officials say this phased approach allows smoother onboarding and proper verification of community groups.
With a long-term vision, the platform seeks to support diaspora-led development, help during natural disasters, and promote Mizo identity and culture.
Estimates suggest that over 200,000 Mizos currently live outside the state, including in metro cities across India and in neighboring countries. The Mizo DiasporaHub is expected to play a key role in connecting these individuals and supporting their needs.
The Chief Minister praised the partnership with LushAITech, saying the collaboration highlights the potential of local tech talent. He urged other states to look at Mizoram’s model for digitally empowering diaspora communities without high costs.
“This is a proud moment for Mizoram. We are showing how digital tools, developed by our own people, can bring the community closer no matter where they are in the world,” said Lalduhoma.
The Mizo DiasporaHub stands as a first-of-its-kind initiative for the northeastern state. It combines smart technology with social commitment, aiming to create a global safety net for the Mizo people.
With a growing number of Mizos moving outside the state for work, study, or other reasons, the portal will help bridge distances, preserve cultural roots, and ensure timely support when needed.
