WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Sen. Mitch McConnell said Thursday that he has left a rehabilitation center and will continue recovering at home after a fall that led to weeks of medical care and public attention.
McConnell shared the update in a statement. He said he was discharged from the rehabilitation center earlier Thursday. He added that he and his wife, Elaine, appreciate the many messages of support they received from friends, colleagues, and people across Kentucky.
The senator also thanked the doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff who cared for him during his recovery. He praised their dedication and professionalism throughout his treatment.
McConnell said his doctors advised him to continue an intensive physical therapy program at home. As a result, he will spend the Senate’s state work period focusing on his recovery. However, he made it clear that he will stay connected with his staff and fellow lawmakers. He said he plans to continue working on important Senate matters while recovering.
The health update comes after weeks of questions about McConnell’s condition. He entered the hospital on June 14, but his office did not reveal the reason for his hospitalization at that time. That decision led to growing speculation about his health.
In July, McConnell addressed those concerns directly. He explained that a fall caused his hospital stay. He also shared more details about the incident and the medical evaluations that followed.
“My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages,” McConnell said in his earlier statement.
He also revealed that he briefly lost consciousness after the fall. Medical personnel took him to the hospital, where doctors monitored his condition. During his stay, he also developed a mild case of pneumonia. Even so, he credited his medical team for providing excellent care throughout his treatment.
Later, doctors transferred McConnell to a rehabilitation center so he could regain his strength through physical therapy. Now, his release marks another step forward in his recovery process.
McConnell, 84, remains one of the most recognizable figures in American politics. He served as Senate majority leader for many years and helped shape Republican strategy in Congress. Although he no longer leads the Senate Republican conference, he continues to represent Kentucky in the Senate.
Earlier this year, McConnell announced that he will not seek reelection. His decision will end a long political career that has spanned several decades. Even so, he has said he intends to complete his current Senate term and continue serving the people of Kentucky.
