WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Calls to remove Donald Trump from office intensified after several lawmakers accused him of making dangerous threats against Iran, raising concerns about global stability and U.S. leadership.

U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi urged Vice President J.D. Vance and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to remove Trump from office. His statement came hours after a similar demand from Rep. Ro Khanna.

Krishnamoorthi cited Trump’s recent remarks, including a warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight,” as deeply alarming. He said such statements show a pattern of reckless decision-making. He added that immediate action is necessary to protect millions of lives and prevent a wider war. Khanna echoed those concerns. He said Trump’s threats could violate both the Constitution and international law. Khanna also called on fellow lawmakers to support the move.

The controversy began after Trump posted a series of statements on Truth Social. In those posts, he warned Iran to comply with U.S. demands, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Critics across party lines viewed the remarks as extreme and dangerous.

Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar described the language as a “call for genocide.” Their comments added to growing outrage among Democrats and some Republicans. Soon after, Trump appeared to step back. He said Iran had agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and that talks were underway. Khanna credited public pressure for the shift, pointing to voices from both sides of the political spectrum. He mentioned conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene as part of that push.

The criticism did not come from Democrats alone. Some Republicans also expressed concern about Trump’s remarks. Greene, a former Trump ally, called the statements “evil and madness.” She joined others in questioning Trump’s judgment. Rep. John Larson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker also supported calls for action. This rare bipartisan reaction highlights the seriousness of the situation. Lawmakers warned that such rhetoric could escalate tensions in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping route. Any conflict there could disrupt oil supplies and impact the global economy.

The 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified in 1967. It provides a process to address presidential disability or incapacity. While its earlier sections deal with voluntary transfers of power, Section 4 allows the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet to declare a president unfit.

If invoked, the vice president becomes acting president. However, the president can challenge that decision. In such cases, Congress must vote. A two-thirds majority in both chambers is required to keep the vice president in charge. This process has never been fully used to remove a sitting president. Many experts view it as a last resort.

Krishnamoorthi said Trump’s actions raise serious questions about his ability to lead. He warned that the stakes are extremely high. He stressed that the safety of Americans and global stability are at risk. The situation also reflects growing divisions in Washington. It shows how foreign policy decisions can quickly become domestic political crises.

As tensions ease slightly following Trump’s reversal, the debate over his conduct continues. Lawmakers remain divided on whether invoking the 25th Amendment is necessary or realistic. For now, the focus shifts to ongoing U.S.-Iran dialogue. Still, the episode has sparked renewed scrutiny of presidential powers and accountability during moments of crisis.
