SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) – Jasmeet Kaur Bains just made history by becoming the first Indian American Sikh woman to be elected to the California Assembly. In her campaign speech she said she would prioritize healthcare, homelessness, and water infrastructure. The Democrat is a family physician by trade and works at a non-profit that helps people with addictions.
In Michigan’s State Senate race, Indian American Representative Padma Kuppa conceded after election results showed she lost by only 795 votes in her district. Kuppa served in House District 41 since 2018 and says she left everything on the field for this campaign.
In New York, the Manhattan district attorney’s office returned 192 looted antiquities to Pakistan. The rare items are estimated to be worth at least $3.5 million dollars. Most of the items are linked to Indian American antiquities dealer Subhash Kapoor, who’s accused of running a massive smuggling network. An Indian court recently sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
