CHANDIGARH, India (Diya TV) — A 30-year-old Indian student from Haryana was fatally stabbed in Worcester, England, on November 25, sparking grief at home and urgent appeals for government assistance. The victim, identified by local leaders as Vijay Kumar Sheoran, had moved to the United Kingdom earlier this year to pursue higher education and build a new future. His death has raised concerns among his family and officials, who are calling for a swift and transparent investigation.

Police in Worcester found Sheoran with critical stab wounds on Barbourne Road around 4:15 a.m. on November 25. Officers rushed him to a local hospital, but he died later that day. West Mercia Police confirmed that five men were arrested on suspicion of murder. Authorities released all five suspects on bail as they continue their investigation. A sixth individual, who was detained earlier, was released without further action.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Holehouse said that the police remain focused on uncovering what led to the attack. He said that officers have pursued several lines of inquiry and that the force’s thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.

While U.K. police have yet to formally confirm the victim’s identity, Charkhi Dadri MLA Sunil Satpal Sangwan identified him on X as Vijay Kumar Sheoran of Jagrambas village in Haryana. Sangwan said Sheoran had been studying in the U.K. after leaving his government job two years ago to pursue higher studies at the University of the West of England, Bristol. Sangwan also appealed for a “transparent, fair, and time-bound investigation” into the killing.

The Consulate General of India in Birmingham expressed condolences to the family. The mission said it is in touch with both the family and the U.K. authorities. Officials said they will provide all possible support to ensure the repatriation of Sheoran’s remains to India.

Back in Haryana, Sheoran’s family is struggling to cope with the loss. His elder brother, Ravi Kumar, has written to the Ministry of External Affairs seeking urgent help. He said the family cannot navigate the complex procedures required to bring Sheoran’s body home. He described the legal and financial pressures as overwhelming.

“We appeal to the government to help us so that his last rites can be held here,” Ravi told news agency PTI. The family said Sheoran had dreamed of building a better life and had worked hard to secure admission abroad. His sudden death has left them devastated and waiting for answers.

Local leaders have echoed the family’s plea. MLA Sangwan has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar seeking swift intervention in the case. He urged authorities to support Sheoran’s family and coordinate with the U.K. government on the ongoing investigation.

The stabbing has drawn attention in both countries, with calls for justice growing louder. West Mercia Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage and questioning witnesses. Holehouse said his team aims to determine what happened that morning and why Sheoran became a target.

Police are urging residents of the Barbourne Road area to report anything they may have seen or heard that night. Authorities believe that community assistance could be key to understanding the sequence of events.

As the investigation continues overseas, Sheoran’s family is waiting in Haryana for his body to be brought home. Villagers in Jagrambas have gathered to support the grieving family. Many recalled Sheoran as hardworking, ambitious, and hopeful about his future.

The tragedy has raised concerns among Indian students abroad and their families, who worry about safety and support in foreign countries. Officials in India say they are monitoring the case closely.
