MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Diya TV) — The Indian student community and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) are in grief over the killing of Praveen Kumar Gampa, a 27-year-old postgraduate student from Telangana, India, in a shooting spree in Milwaukee.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago showed deep regret for Gampa’s untimely demise. In a release made on X, the Consulate stated, “We are pained to learn about the tragic death of Praveen Kumar Gampa, a Post-graduate student of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Consulate is in touch with the family and the University, providing them with all possible assistance. Our prayers and sympathies are with his family and friends of the deceased.”
Gampa’s death is the second such tragic accident involving a Telangana student in recent months. In November 2024, the Consulate General of India in Chicago was shocked and saddened by the reported murder of Indian student Nukarapu Sai Teja from Telangana, who was shot dead outside a shop in Chicago.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, known as one of the country’s leading research institutions, has still not made any official comment concerning Gampa’s death. Indian media reports indicate Gampa was shot and killed during a robbery attempt at a store where he had worked part time in Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Police Department are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Gampa’s death. Community residents and students alike are encouraged to bring forward anything they may know that could aid the investigation.
