New York (Diya TV) – Indian American Uber driver Bharatbhai Patel says an ex-con and repeat offender stabbed him in New York city’s Lower East side without saying a word and bystanders did nothing. Police later arrested Sean Cooper, a 47-year-old career criminal with more than 100 arrests on his rap sheet and charged him with assault in the brutal attack. Patel is expected to recover from his wounds.
In Arizona, four members of an Indian American family died after a semi truck smashed into them at a stop sign. Authorities say both vehicles were pushed off the road and rolled down an embankment. The semi-trailer landed on top but the driver managed to escape unharmed. The four people in the passenger car were pronounced dead on the scene.
In a landmark ruling in India, the Supreme Court added to the definition of rape, including forcible sex in marriage. The country’s top court also stated that all women have the right to an abortion up until 24 weeks.
