NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, addressed concerns in Parliament on Thursday regarding the recent deportation of 104 Indian nationals from the United States. He emphasized that the use of restraints during deportation flights has been standard procedure by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since 2012.

The deportees, who arrived in Amritsar, Punjab, on Wednesday aboard a U.S. military aircraft, reported being handcuffed during the journey. Opposition lawmakers criticized this treatment as degrading and demanded a government response.

Jaishankar clarified that the use of restraints is part of ICE’s standard operating procedures and that there has been no change in this protocol. He assured Parliament that the government is engaging with U.S. authorities to ensure that Indian deportees are not mistreated during repatriation.

The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi stated that enforcing immigration laws is crucial for national security and public safety. They emphasized it is U.S. policy to execute immigration laws against all inadmissible and removable individuals.

This incident has sparked a broader discussion on illegal migration. Jaishankar highlighted the need for a strong crackdown on the illegal migration industry, noting that the focus should be on preventing such situations in the future.
